Dr Sharwood grew up on the Northern Tablelands of NSW. She completed a Bachelor of Optometry at the University of NSW then her medical degree and a Masters of Medicine at the University of Sydney. After working in general medicine and surgery at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney she undertook her specialist Ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital.

After completion of her specialist training she travelled to the UK for further international fellowship training in strabismus and paediatric ophthalmology at the Cambridge University Hospitals (Addenbrookes) and the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London.

Dr Sharwood is a visiting medical officer in Ophthalmology at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Queensland Children’s Hospital where she is active in the training of medical students, ophthalmologists in training and visiting international fellows in strabismus surgery, cataract surgery and paediatric ophthalmology. She is a RANZCO College Examiner in Basic and Clinical Sciences and a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine.

She is a founding partner of Queensland Ophthalmic Specialists.

Outside of her work she is mother to three lovely but active children and a lazy Labrador. Her favourite things are swimming, cooking for friends and family, and enjoying an uninterrupted cup of coffee with her husband.
